日本語の練習 第72週 Japanese Practice Week 72

Hello everyone! Kyuusei here to teach you Japanese and show what I find interesting about Japan. With that being said, let’s continue.

日本語のイベント

弓道についてだけです。ユーチューブで動画（注意：このビデオを見るとき、ヴォリュームを小さくて方がいい。 ）を見たから、弓道のことが気にしてなりました。

小さい頃、弓術をしたことがありました。あの夏休み、姉とコロラド州に行って、父に見に行きました。教会の時後、男子たちは弓術を練習しました。やってみたけど、下手そうです。ついに、最後の夏休みの日、できました。ブルズアイに大当たりしてできなかったけど、うれしかったです。

This grammar point is used to modify a verb or an adjective to make a sentence such “it’s not that ____” or “do you like ___ that much”.

そんなに + Verb / Adjective

Ex: 漢字を書くのことがそんなに難しくないですが、漢字を読むのことがとても難しいです。

　　(It’s not that difficult to write kanji, but it’s very difficult to read kanji.)

Ex: あの女性はそんなに働かないだと思うよ。もしかして、ふられたのか？

　　(I don’t think that woman works that much. By any means, were you dumped?)

This grammar point is used to say even though something is the case or regardless of something, this happened.

1st Phrase  + それでも + 2nd Phrase 

Ex: 母は運転方のことを教えてもらった。それでも、まだ上手ではありません。

　　(My mother taught me how to drive. And yet, I’m still not good at it.)

Ex: 彼女はあの男性に彼氏になってほしかったです。それでも、無理でした。あの彼は彼女のことがそんなに興味なかった。

　　(The woman wanted that man to be her boyfriend. And yet, it was impossible. He wasn’t that interested in her.)

1. Spring break is over and your classmate is curious about what you did. Tell them about your time working at a movie theatre. Tell him that there was always a lot of popcorn on the floor.

映画館で勤めました。いつも床にポップコーンがたくさんありました。

2. Today you are spending the day attending research seminars with your classmate that seems bored to tears. He asks when the next seminar about some Organic Chemistry breakthrough is starting. Tell him that the next seminar starts at 11:00AM and ends at 12:30. Then ask if he is looking forward to it.

3. You are playing soccer with your Japanese friend. Ask her if there are any other sports that are popular in Japan.

日本は他の人気なスポーツがありますか。

4. You look in the fridge and notice your roommate ate your pudding. There is a note but you can’t really make out the handwriting (looks like chicken scratch). When your roommate comes back home they see you are a tad upset. They ask if you read the note. Tell your roommate that since they have messy handwriting you couldn’t read the note.

君の書き方が悪いから、メモを読めなかった。

5. You are studying for your final exam in your Japanese class that’s in a few days. Your friend comes up to you and asks if you are ready for it. Tell your friend that you haven’t memorized any of the new kanji yet.

A: あ、卒業をおめでとう。無理しないでね。あ、そうだ。

B: なに？

A: うちの会社はプログラマーが欲しくてみたいに。よかったら。。。

B: ぜひ、お願いします。

A: じゃあ、あの店に食べに行こう。インタビューもします。

B: え、インタビュー？

A: うん、今会社の部長だ。さって、店にいて時、ポルトフォリオを見せてくれない？

A: Eh, Heeey, Mitsuki, it’s been a while.

B: Max, it’s been a while, hasn’t it. You’re as energetic as ever.

A: Yeah, I’m always energetic. How has it been lately?

B: I’m looking for a new job.

A: Well that sounds rough, huh? Have you graduated from the programming school?

B: Yes, I graduated this month.

A: Oh, congratulations on graduating. Don’t overdo it, all right. Oh I got it.

B: What is it?

A: My company wants programmers. If you like…

B: By all means, please.

A: Well, let’s go to that store to eat. I will also do an interview.

B: Er, interview?

A: Yes, I’m a manager of the company now. So, when we get to the shop, can you show me your portfolio?

輝くものすべて金にあらず

輝く（かがやく）もの

輝く is a verb that means to shine or to light up. もの means thing. When a verb or noun or adjective is put together with もの it usually means “____ thing”. For example, 甘いもの (Sweet thing -> Sweets). So if we put 輝くもの together we get “Shiny thing”.

すべて

This means “all”. It also can be seen in it’s kanji form as 全て. Put together with 輝くものすべて can mean “all things that shine”.

金（きん）

金 can mean “money”.  With nouns like this, you will sometimes find it has an お before it. That is just to put some politeness and softness to the words. Women commonly say お金・お酒・お風呂 while men usually drop the お to make it sound rougher from what my Japanese teacher use to tell me.

Anyways, what is really being said here is the word “gold”.

にあらず

あらず　means “it is not so” or “no” or  “never mind”. When put with に it is suggesting that we are talking about something in particular that is not something. When connected with 金 it will mean “it is not gold” or in a shorter term “is not gold”.

So putting everything together we get… “All things that shine is not gold” as a rough translation. However, this sounds awfully familiar to an idiom that I know. So a more accurate translation would be…

This title came from 富豪刑事：バランス：アンリミテッド(The Balance: UNLIMITED part is actually written in English in the original title but I just wanted to type it in katakana) or in English, Millionaire Detective: Balance: UNLIMITED. It was a pretty interesting story and the main character shows off his wealth in every episode (he even splurged ￥100,000 to make his own cup ramen company after eating it for the first time.)  

I gave it a 7/10. It was good but it had some problems. Perhaps if it had more episodes to flesh out the characters and the motivations of the antagonist I would have scored it higher. Anyway if you are interested, here is a trailer:

レイの日記

よしーみんな２０以上レベル上がって。さて、カスミを戦いに行こうぜ。やりすぎかもしれない。カスミはポケモンが2匹だけだ。違う、カズミはジムリーダーだから、あいつをなめるな。俺は気を付けて方がいいだろう。カスミの初出しているポケモンはヒトデマンだ。それはノー問題だった。で、カスミはヒトデマンにディフェンダーを使った。ディフェンダーって何？えーと、ヒトデマンの防御さが上がった。そのアイテムはどこに見つけたのか？チョウムの「どくのかな」をやってみたが、ダメだった。ヒトデマンプールはプールに泳いで、毒が流れた。えーと。。。泳いでいる男が大丈夫かなあ？万一のため、男に「どくなし」を投げた。あとで、キバに出した。キバのひっさつまえばの技はヒトデマンを倒した。イナズマの出番が来るかな？

次はスターミーが出た。ヒトデマンに似ていると思う。あいつは紫色で、エッジがたくさんある。確かに、ヒトデマンの進化しているフォーム。くそ、またディフェンダー。キバの『しっぽをふる』の技を使ってつづけているが、スターミーがかたくなるの技を使って続けていた。あの時、トランセルのデジャヴ。まったく、ウザいなあ。キバの休憩のため、ルフィを出した。あの時には、俺は失敗した。スターミーはかたくなるの技を止めて、バブルこうせんの技を使って。。。ルフィを殺した。。。

すぐにイナズマを出した。電気ショック二回であいつを倒した。ルフィ。。。ごめんねー。死んでいるポケモンが二度目だ。チクショー！勝ってよかったが、俺は一緒にもっと旅行したい。チェー。カスミは俺にテクニカルマシンをもらった。この技はルフィを殺していたの技だ。。。許してやる。ルフィの死亡は俺のせいだから。（それに。。。カスミはちょっとかわいいだから。ちょっとだけってさ！）

REI’S JOURNAL

All right, everyone is now level 20. Now, let’s go fight Misty. Maybe I overdid it. She only has 2 Pokemon. No I shouldn’t take her lightly. Gotta stay focus. Her first Pokemon, Starmie, wasn’t a problem. Then Misty used an item called X Defend. What is that. Eh- it made Starmie’s defense higher. Where’d she get that item from? Tried to us Choumu’s poison powder but it didn’t work. Starmie just swam in the pool and it washed away the poison. Uh- is that guy in the pool going to be okay? I threw an antidote over to him just in case. After that I sent out Kiba. Kiba’s Hyper Fang took it down. Will Inazuma have to fight?

Then the next Pokemon appeared, Starmyu. It looks like Starmie, except its purple and has more edges. Might be what Starmie will evolve into. Darn it, she used another X Defend. Tried Kiba’s tail whip to lower the defense, but Starmyu kept using harden. I’m getting Deja Vu from Viridian Forest’s Metapods. So annoying. Sent out Luffy to give the others a break. And that’s where I messed up. Starmyu’s Bubblebeam attack… killed Luffy…

I quickly sent out Inazuma. A couple of thundershocks and it went down. Luffy… I’m so sorry. My second dead Pokemon. Darn it! I’m glad we won but I wanted us all to travel together some more. Tch. Now Misty is giving me the same TM that killed Luffy… I’ll forgive her since it’s my fault Luffy died. (Plus she’s kinda cute…)
