日本語の練習 第68週 Japanese Practice Week 68
Hello everyone! Kyuusei here to teach you Japanese and show what I find interesting about Japan. With that being said, let’s continue.
日本語のイベント
日本語を三年ぐらい勉強しているで、気づいます。有名人と日本語のことが聞きませんでした。気になるから、ネットで調べてに行きます。これは探した：
有名人たちは日本語を上手ですね。よくわかりますが、ちょっと簡単に喋ってます。次のビデオはゆたのアリアネグランデは日本語で話している動画について：
N4 文法
[の中で（のなかで）]
This is used to say that something is “in” or “among” something. When I see this grammar point the first thing that comes to mind is this show called “My little sister is among them” or 「この中に1人、妹がいる！」。So in a sense, these two grammar points are quite similar.
Noun ＋の中で
Ex: 全ての国の中で、ドイツとアメリカに行ったことがある。
(Amongst all countries, I’ve been to Germany and America.)
Ex: オーブンの中で煙の匂いがした。
(I smelled smoke in the oven.)
[のに]
This grammar point is used to say “in order to”. Think of it as another way to say ために.
Verb(casual form) ＋のに
Ex: お金持ちになるのに、働くとか便利なものを作る。
(To get rich, work or make something useful.)
Ex: 日本は冒険するのにいいところだと思います。
(I think that Japan is a good place to go on an adventure.)
[のにII？]
Same word as the first but different context. This one means “although”, “in spite of”, or “even though”.
Verb(casual form) + のに
Noun + なのに
いーadj + のに
なーadj + なのに
Ex: 声優になたのに、仕事があんまりしない。
(Even though I am a voice actor, I don’t do much work. )
Ex: 今大人なのに、彼はときどき子供っぽいことをします。
(Even though he’s an adult now, he sometimes does childish things.)
Ex: 人と日本語で話しにくいのに、頑張ります。
(Even though it’s hard to talk to people in Japanese, I’ll do my best.)
Ex: 部屋がきれいだったなのに、今、どうしてこんなに汚いか？
(Even though the room was clean, why is it so dirty now?)
[のように・のような]
This grammar point is used
Noun + のような + Noun
Noun + のように + Verb/Adjective
Ex: 紙で色紙のような署名を書いていました。
(I was writing my signature on paper like it was an autograph board.)
Ex: 彼女はテーブルで化け物のように食べました。
(She ate like a monster at the table.)
Ex: 真一工藤は謎作家のように賢い人だ。
(Shinichi Kudo is as smart as a mystery writer.)
トピックスを答えましようか
1) Your classmate asks you where Shimamura is these days. Tell them that she’s been working a lot lately, so he doesn’t have a lot of free time anymore.
最近、島村さんはたくさん働いているから、暇じゃなかったと言っていました。
2) Yes, you miraculously got two tickets to the Eva Movie. Invite your friend, Yuki, to go with you.

3) The deadline is coming up for the short story in Japanese you have to right for your Japanese composition class. Out of curiosity, ask your classmate if she had already written her short story.

5) Yuki really enjoyed the movie and said it was interesting and worth the wait. Tell your classmate what Yuki told you.

N4 動詞
1. 痩せる（やせる）– To Become Thin/ To Lose Weight
Ex: 痩せるためには、毎日自転車に乗ります。
(I ride my bike every day to lose weight.)
Ex: 私は痩せ方のことが知らないけど、二三日に運動しましょう。
(I don’t know how to lose weight, but let’s exercise on the 23rd.)
Ex: ごめん、痩せる中から、ケーキを食べに行かない。
(Sorry, I’m in the middle of losing weight, so I can’t go eat cake.)
2. 止む（やむ）– To Stop (rain, snow)
Ex: 雨が止む時、水溜まりを跳び越しょう。
(When the rain stops, I jump over the puddles.)
Ex: 傘を買ってきてなのに、雨が止みました。
(Even though I bought an umbrella, it stopped raining.)
Ex: 雪が止みながら、雪だるまを作った。
(I built a snowman while the snow stopped.)
3. 止める（やめる）– To Resign/To Quit
Ex: この会社は厳しくになったから、辞めました
(This company began to get rough, so I quit.)
Ex: もうすぐ卒業しているのに、彼女は学校を辞めました。
(Even though she was going to graduate soon, she quit school.)
Ex: 彼は仕事を辞めたいそうけど、ここにまだ働きます。
(He wants to quit his job but, he still works here.)
4. 揺れる（ゆれる）– To Shake, To Sway
Ex: うちが強く揺れて、地震があると思った。
(The house shook so much that I thought it was an earthquake.)
Ex: 地震の時、カメラが揺れた過ぎて、トライポッドに落ちた。
(During the earthquake, the camera shook so much it fell off the tripod.)
Ex: 強くて風が吹いて、女性の体が揺れました。
(A strong wind shook the woman’s bag.)

B: うん、いいよ。行こう。何を買うの？
A: ツナの卵サンド。
B: あ、おいしそう。ファミリーマートのハムサンドを食べたことある？
A: うん、ちょとふうつと思う。いま、所のメロンパンをしか買わない。
B: もっといいものがあるでしょう。そこも行ってもいい？
A: いいよ。3時までに帰らなきゃ。
B: え？なんで？暇だし。ゲームセンターに行こう。
A: あした日本語のテストあるのに、ちょっと復習して予定わよ。
B: えー？明日てすとがあるの？！
A: えーと、うん。もしかして、勉強しないでしょう？
B: 手伝ってください！

A: You wanna go Lawsons?
B: Yeah sure. Let’s go. What are you getting?
A: Tuna and egg sandwich.
B: Oh, that sounds good. Have you tried the ham sandwich from Family Mart?
A: Yeah, it’s kinda mid. I only get melon bread from there now.
B: There’s gotta be more good stuff in there. You want to go there, too?
A: Sure. But I gotta get back home before 3:00.
B: Eh? Why’s that? Let’s go to the arcade.
A: I plan on reviewing a little bit before the Japanese test tomorrow.
B: Eh-? T-there’s a test tomorrow?!
A: Uh, yeah. Don’t tell me you haven’t been studying?
B: … please help me.

僕は友達が少ない
僕（ぼく）
This is a pronoun usually used for guys. For example, you can see that I use it quite a bit in this blog. It just means “I”.
は
This is a particle that just means “is”. It is used during to put focus on what is being talked about. So, for example with 僕 it can mean “I am”.
友達（ともだち）
Let’s split up these two kanji. 友 can be derived as a friend, or a companion. 達 is an interesting kanji that allows us to put a plural touch on people and animals. So together it just means “friends”
が
Like は, が is another particle that can show what object you are talking about in a sentence. In other words, が is acting upon the word for friends.
少ない（すくない）
The kanji少 from 少ない can mean “small”, or “little”, or “few”. In this context it is best to go with “few” instead of the other translations.
So together you have 僕は友達が少ない ⇒ I Have a Few Friends.
So, the real translation is I Don’t Have Many Friends.
This is one of the first anime that I watched in Japanese. It didn’t have an English dub at the time but I wanted to watch it because it seemed fun. This is probably the only show that I have watched subbed and then dubbed afterwards for both seasons.
On another note, the only thing that bothers me about this show is that the light novels have not been translated officially into English. Plus, there is no way they are going to do another season after so many (6?) years even though the material has been done for so long. They have a manga but the art style kind of throws me for a loop. If I get into the manga, it will just take getting used to but, I prefer to read the light novels. If my Japanese gets better, I wonder if I could read it in its original language instead.

橋にいている人たちは何するのか？あ、トレーナーだ。トレーナーを五人を倒したら、プライズをゲットだっと。楽しそう。アキを倒せれば、問題なしだね。全てのトレーナーを倒してみよう。くそ、きづぐすりがない。それに、アキのバトルのせいで、ポケモンが疲れた。もう一人のトレーナーがいるくせに。ギリギリだった。まいいか、ポケモンを回復してきづぐすりを買う。
最後のトレーナーを倒した。超強いマンキーがいた。あいつはルフィが強くよりになりたいだ。やった！橋の終わるまでいている男は金の玉を手に入れた。え？あいつはロケット団員で、俺をリクルートしてみたか？俺はこの団に何も関係ないしたいだ。もうあいつの友はお月見山に出会った。断ったから、あいつはポケモンバトルを挑んだ。
あいつのアーボがめんどくせー。まきつくの技を使って続けたから、俺のポケモンが動かないんだった。でも、あいつのズバットが弱すぎる。え、俺の力が強くてから、ロケット団のトップリーダーになれるってか？えーと、そんな弱いだろうか、この団員たち。まだ二度目バージがないし。
お、草だ。新しいポケモンが出た！マダツボミと呼ぶだ。変だったなー、こいつ。しかし、こいつはカスミのポケモンを倒してくれてかもしらない。くそ！ぼっとして、シッコウクハのきゅうけつの技を使てつづけたので、マダツボミを殺した。お腹がいっぱいだね、シッコウクハ。それで、トレーラーのアーボはチョウムを毒した。ポケモンセンターに戻らないと。
REI’S JOURNAL
I wonder what these people are doing on this bridge. Oh, so they are trainers. If I beat all five trainers, then I get a prize. Sounds fun. If I can beat Aki, I’m sure I won’t have any problem. Let’s try beating them all in a row. Darn, I don’t have any potions. Plus, my Pokémon are tired after that battle with Aki. I only have one more trainer though. I was so close. Oh well, better heal them up and buy potions.
I fought the last trainer. He had this super strong Mankey. I want Luffy to get stronger than it. Yay, I got a nugget from this guy at the end of the bridge. Eh? He’s with Team Rocket and he’s trying to recruit me? I don’t want anything to do with you guys. I already ran into a bunch of your friends in Mt. Moon. I refused, so he challenged me to a Pokémon battle.
His Ekans was annoying. It kept using wrap, so my Pokémon couldn’t move. His Zubat was a pushover. Eh, with my ability I could have become a top leader in Team Rocket, you say? Uh, How weak are these guys? I don’t even have a second badge yet.
Ooh, grass, a new Pokémon appeared. It’s called Bellsprout. It looks weird but it could help take down Misty’s Pokémon. Crap! I spaced out and let Shikkoukuha use Leech Life too much and killed it. Then a trainer’s Ekans poisoned Choumu. I gotta get to the Pokémon Center.
In conclusion, I hope that this series is helpful with your journey to learning Japanese and/or taking an interest in the country’s culture. Until then… また来週！
