GRAMMAR NOTES
[あげる]
This grammar point means to give something or a favor to someone. It can be combined with the て- form to create more intricate sentences as well.
Ex: 彼女に指輪をあげます。(I will give her a ring.)
Ex: 私はみんなに歌ってあげます。(I will sing for all of you.)
[やる]
This grammar point is similar to [あげる] in its meaning to give or do a favor for someone. The only difference is that it is usually used for talking to children or pets.
Ex: お姉さんは子供に飴をやった。(The lady gave the children candy.)
Ex: ワンちゃんにビスケットをやった。(I gave my puppy a biscuit.)
トピックスを答えましようか
- You go out with some coworkers to a drinking party (飲み会 [のみかい]). One of your coworkers asked if you drink alcohol. Tell your coworker that you drink a little.
少し飲みます。
- Your underclassmen asks you what sports are popular at this university. Tell them that basketball is the most popular.
この大学は一番人気スポーツはバススケジュールです。
- Before going on a date, you get a text asking you what kind of movies you like. Tell them that you sometimes watch old american movies.
時々古くてアメリカの映画を見ます。
- You and your friend are talking about your families. Tell your friend that your little sister studies a lot.
妹はすごく勉強します。
- Invite your friends to a flower viewing party in the park on Wednesday.
水曜日に公園で花見しませんか。
- Your coworkers are raving about a local restaurant near the station. Tell them that you often eat cheeseburgers at that restaurant.
あのレストランでチーズバーガーをよく食べますよ。
- Your friend says that he wakes up early in the morning to cook breakfast for his mother before she leaves for work. Ask him what time his mother goes to work every morning.

- 書く（かく）- To write

I wrote the report but I don’t understand it at all.
- ラブレターを書くが恥ずかしいよ。
Writing a love letter is embarrassing.
- かける – To wear glasses
- メガネをかけるが大嫌いです。コンタクトの方がいいです。
I hate wearing glasses. Contacts are better.
- 顔を洗って、メガネをかけました。
I washed my face and put on my glasses.
- かける – To make a phone call
- すみません、姉に電話をかけています。
Excuse me, I am calling my sister.
- お母さんに電話をかけて忘れないでください。
Don’t forget to call your mother.
- 貸す（かす）- To lend
- この麦わら帽子が好きから、少し貸してください。
I like this straw hat so please lend it to me for it a bit.
- ノートパソコンを貸してあげます。
I will lend you my notebook computer.
- 被る（かぶる）- To wear something on your head
- この麦わら帽子をかぶったら、ルフィに似ているね。
If I wore this straw hat, I would look like Luffy.
- 黒い帽子をかぶっている男は誰ですか。
Who is that man wearing the black hat?
- 借りる（かりる）- To borrow
- 昨日、図書館で本を借りました。
I borrowed a book from the library yesterday.
- 家族はお金をいつも借りますけど、どうでもいいです。
My family always borrows money but I don’t care.

A: ね、ニック、ワンピースもだ読まない？
B: うん、アニメだけを見た。マンガはちょっと
A: へえ、読むべきだろう。すごい経験だよ。
B: だって、ホールケーキアイランド編を見て終えった。
A: 遅いすぎるだろう。とにかく、その漫画は5年後に終わる予定よ。
B: 嘘。
A: 嘘じゃないよ。さ、読んでみる？
B: じゃ、たぶん少しだけ。
[洒落が寒い]
A: ね、みゆちゃん、あのおっさんは何をしているかしら。
B: え、知らない。怪しいそう。無視しようの方がいいでしょう。
A: だから、おっさんの帽子がボロボロ。
B: そうよ。スイスチーズみたいに。
A: おっさんはあの帽子をただ買った。
B: どこ。あっ、あの高いデパートで。。。
A: 一体なぜ誰かあの帽子を被る。
B: 毛氈をかぶっている帽子でしょう。
A: おいー！洒落は古いすぎるわよ。
B: 古いだけど、分かっているでしょう。

B: Eh, I don’t know. He seems suspicious. Better ignore him.

A: The old man just bought that hat though.
B: Where? Ah, at that expensive department store…

ヒビキのにっき
ポータウンの方に行きます。つまり、スコル団のベース。ここはしたっぱが多い。このしたっぱはムスキッパが大好きなポケモンだけど、彼女はあのポケモンがいません。一体なんだよ。あ、島めぐりを失敗するしたっぱは少ないだなあ。なるほど。ちょっと悲しいそう。この島めぐりが超優しいだ。ドブルバトル！ポケモンを治すべきだけど、大丈夫と思う。やはり、僕たちの勝利。え？ビヤこはかえんほうしゃを覚えたい？すごい！少女は「ひー！島めぐりで鍛え過ぎだよあんた！」と言った。ふん。。。うん、たぶん。さ、通ってよ。え、そうな。ドアを閉めった！おい、ドアを開けてくれない。
おっさんここにいた急に。おっさんは「スコル団として生きるにしろ、スコル団と戦うにしろ、あるのかい覚悟ってやつ」と言った。ううん、全部を倒してつもりだ。危険じゃないけど、この団はただ煩いと思う。おっさんにドアを開けてもらった。おっさんは誰？警察？うわ〜雨がだんだんすごく降ってになった。くそ、これらバカがポータウンの入口にバリケードを築いた。なぜケンタロスでバリケードを壊してできないだろう。もう〜。他の道へ探しないと。あっ、穴があそこにあるよ。てへへ。復讐の時間だ。
HIBIKI’S JOURNAL
I’m on my way to Po Town. In other words, Team Skull’s base. So many grunts. One of them likes Carnivine but they don’t have a Carnivine. What the heck?! So there are some grunts who tried to do the island challenge, but failed. Ah I see. That’s kind of sad. This challenge is really easy. Double Battle! I need to heal my Pokemon, but we should be fine. As expected, we won. Eh? Biyako wants to learn Flamethrower. Awesome! “The island challenge has made me way too strong” she says. Hmm… yeah I guess so. Now let me through. Eh No way! They closed the door! Hey, would you open the door!
Suddenly an old man showed up. “Ready to live as Team Skull. Or ready to take on Team Skull.”? No, I’m taking them all down. They aren’t dangerous, they are just annoying. The old man let me through. Who was that old geezer? The police? Woah the rain has gotten stronger. Darn, these idiots barricaded the entrance to Po Town. Why can’t I use Tauros to break the barricade? Geez. I have to find another way. Ah there is a hole over there. hehehe… time for revenge.
